Start with Why — Why I Started This Blog

December 4, 2020 by Kaylan Pepin

The idea for this blog lived in my mind for months. It grew out of hundreds of conversations with technology founders and finance partners.

Why write it down?

In banking, I was lucky to work with founders across different industries, stages, and financing paths. Every meeting taught me something. The same questions kept appearing, but the best parts of the conversation rarely travelled beyond the room.

This blog started as a place to share those discussions openly: how financing tools work, when they fit, where they do not, and why reasonable people can disagree about the right answer.

What I hope it does

Help founders ask sharper questions, help finance partners explain their thinking, and make the strange vocabulary of startup finance a little less intimidating.

  • Practical explanations without pretending every company is the same.
  • Open debates about debt, equity, and bootstrapping.
  • Useful resources, models, and the occasional footnote spiral.

Still true

The blog has changed, the work has changed, and the internet definitely has. The reason for publishing is still the same: ideas get better when they leave the draft folder and meet other people.
